Kartini Day at Indonesian Creative School

To commemorate Kartini Day on April 21st, Indonesian Creative School held a series of meaningful activities involving students from Elementary to High School. This celebration aimed not only to honor the legacy of R.A. Kartini but also to instill her values of courage, education, and empowerment in a way that is engaging and relevant for today’s young generation.

Elementary School: Learning from Kartini, Creating from the Heart
The Elementary School students began their Kartini Day by learning about the life and legacy of R.A. Kartini—a trailblazer for women’s rights and a strong advocate for education. After listening to her inspiring story, the students were given the opportunity to express their reflections through various creative outlets.

Some students chose to illustrate their thoughts through drawing and coloring, while others expressed themselves through poetry that celebrated Kartini’s spirit. Several students wrote heartfelt pieces about the most inspiring woman in their lives, and others composed short stories inspired by the values and meaning of Kartini Day. These activities encouraged students not only to be creative but also to reflect on the importance of women’s roles in their own lives and communities.

Middle & High School: Reflection, Appreciation, and Meaningful Dialogue
For Middle and High School students, the Kartini Day program took place in the Creativity Hall of Indonesian Creative School, offering a more reflective and interactive experience. Students began by writing letters addressed to Kartini—imagining what they might say to her if she were alive today. This activity invited them to express their gratitude, admiration, and thoughts about how her legacy continues to inspire.

Following this, students watched a documentary film that explored Kartini’s life, her challenges, and her lasting impact on women’s empowerment in Indonesia. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and share insights, sparking meaningful discussions about gender equality, education, and the relevance of Kartini’s message in modern times.

The Spirit of Kartini, the Creativity of ICS
Through these thoughtful activities, Indonesian Creative School aimed to go beyond simply commemorating history. The school encouraged students to internalize Kartini’s message and reflect it in their daily actions—through learning, expressing themselves, and standing up for what is right.

At ICS, we believe that every student has the potential to be a changemaker, just as Kartini was in her time.

Happy Kartini Day! May her courage continue to inspire us to dream bigger, create boldly, and speak up for a better and more equal future.

One of the Middle School students confidently shares her thoughts during the interactive Q&A session as part of the Kartini Day celebration at Indonesian Creative School. The session encouraged students to voice their perspectives on gender equality and Kartini’s legacy.
